The holidays are supposed to be “the most wonderful time of the year,” right? But the truth is, for a lot of people, this season can feel anything but wonderful. Maybe family gatherings bring more stress than joy, or maybe you don’t have a place or people to go home to. Sometimes, the pressure to be happy just makes things feel heavier.
You’re not alone in that. Many people struggle with their mental health during the winter holidays. In fact, studies show that anxiety and depression often increase at this time of year. Between financial worries, loneliness, grief, and even the shorter daylight hours that can trigger Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), it’s no wonder so many of us find the season overwhelming. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), about 64% of people living with mental health conditions say the holidays make their symptoms worse.
And to make things harder, not everyone can afford therapy or other mental health resources right now. That’s one of the reasons why Contemporary Healing Spaces created Healing Holiday Hearts, a free support community focused on mindfulness, connection, and care during the holidays.
Each week, we’ll share gentle practices, personal stories, and simple tools to help you find your footing through the season. Think of it as a space to breathe, to reflect, and to remind yourself that you’re not alone in feeling the way you do.
So, if the holidays feel a little heavy this year, come join us. There’s room for you here exactly as you are.
